Quick answer
A CS2 DMA cheat uses a PCIe card in your gaming PC to read Counter-Strike 2's memory from a second computer, which runs the cheat and shows the result, usually as a radar or an ESP on another screen. The hardware alone costs around $200 to $600, before the second PC. It is not undetectable: FACEIT targets DMA cards with its IOMMU requirement, and on VAC matchmaking VAC Live and Overwatch judge how you play, whatever hardware is behind it.

A CS2 DMA cheat moves the cheat off your gaming PC. A card plugged into the PC reads Counter-Strike 2’s memory, a second computer runs the cheat, and you see the result on a phone, a second monitor or a merged video feed. It costs a few hundred dollars before the second PC, takes real setup work, and it does not make you invisible to VAC Live, Overwatch or FACEIT.

This page covers how a CS2 DMA cheat works, what a DMA radar is, what a setup costs, how VAC and FACEIT deal with it, and why a software build on one PC is the simpler route for most players.

What a CS2 DMA cheat is

DMA stands for direct memory access. It is a normal hardware feature that lets a device read and write a PC’s memory without going through the processor. Graphics cards, SSDs and network cards all use it. For the full background, see what a DMA cheat is in our wiki.

A CS2 DMA cheat uses that feature to read the game’s memory from outside the gaming PC. The card sees the same data the game client holds: where each player is, their health, their weapon, where the bomb is. The cheat on the second PC turns that data into a radar, an ESP or aim help.

How a CS2 DMA cheat works

A typical setup has three parts.

  1. A DMA card in the gaming PC. A PCIe board, usually built around an FPGA chip, goes into a spare slot. It is often set up to look like an ordinary device to the gaming PC.
  2. A second computer. The card connects to it by cable. The second PC runs the cheat, asks the card for the memory it needs and does all the work of finding players.
  3. A way to see and act on it. The simplest is a radar on another screen. Drawing an ESP over your game needs a device that merges the two PCs’ video into one picture. Aiming through DMA needs a hardware box that the gaming PC treats as a normal mouse.

The selling point is that nothing from the cheat runs on the gaming PC. The catch is everything else: two machines, extra devices, firmware that has to match, and offsets that have to be updated after every CS2 patch before the cheat reads the right memory again.

CS2 DMA radar

Most CS2 DMA cheats start as a radar, and many never go further. A radar only needs to read memory, which is exactly what DMA is good at. The second PC reads every player’s position and draws it on an overhead map of Mirage, Inferno or whichever map you are on.

A lot of CS2 DMA radars are web radars. The second PC serves the map as a page, and you open it in a browser on a phone, a tablet or a second monitor. Some are sold, and some are open source and published on GitHub for anyone to build.

The downside is the same as any radar hack: you have to look away from the game to read it. In a fast CS2 round, glancing at a phone between peeks costs time, and it never shows you where a player is in your crosshair. A radar answers where the enemies are. An ESP drawn on your own screen answers that while you aim.

What a CS2 DMA setup costs

PartWhat it is forCost
DMA cardReads CS2’s memory from the gaming PCAround $200 to $600 for the DMA hardware
Second PCRuns the cheatA whole computer, or one you already own
Video mergerPuts an ESP over your game on one screenExtra hardware, only if you want ESP in game
Hardware mouse boxMoves your aim from the second PCExtra hardware, only if you want aim help
Cheat softwareThe radar or ESP that runs on the second PCUsually a separate purchase or subscription

Compare that with a software build on the PC you already have. The Elocarry Counter-Strike 2 build for VAC is £3.99 for a day, £9.99 for a month or £19.99 for three months, and there is nothing to plug in.

Is DMA detected in CS2?

DMA moves the cheat off the PC. It does not hide what you do in the match. How that plays out depends on where you play.

VAC and VAC Live (Premier, Competitive, Wingman)

VAC runs in user mode with no kernel driver. It does not look at the hardware in your PC the way kernel anti-cheats do, so in matchmaking the card itself is not what gets people banned. What gets people banned is how they play:

  • VAC Live watches matches as they happen and can cancel a match on the spot when it flags a cheater.
  • Overwatch lets other players review the demo of a reported account.
  • VAC bans are permanent and stay on the Steam profile for good.

A DMA radar user who pre-aims every corner or rotates to a site before the call comes looks exactly the same in a demo as someone running a software ESP. The hardware does not change the evidence.

FACEIT

FACEIT is a different problem. Its anti-cheat runs at kernel level, it checks the devices in your PC, and FACEIT has said publicly that it can detect DMA cheats. It has also rolled out a requirement for the IOMMU and virtualization-based security. The IOMMU works as a memory firewall: with it on, a card in a PCIe slot can only reach the memory it has been given, not the game. FACEIT began rolling this out in April 2025 and has enforced it for every player above 3,000 Elo since August 2025.

That is the route DMA was supposed to get around, and FACEIT built a hardware answer to it. Our VAC vs FACEIT comparison covers the two anti-cheats in more detail.

Why a software build is the alternative

For VAC matchmaking, the case for DMA is weak. VAC does not inspect your hardware, so the card buys little protection, and the behaviour checks that do catch people work the same either way. What DMA does add is cost, a second PC and a lot of setup.

The Elocarry Counter-Strike 2 cheat runs on the same Windows PC as the game. It covers Premier, Competitive, Wingman, Casual, Deathmatch, Arms Race and community servers. One menu holds a legit aimbot with FOV, smoothing and bone selection, box and skeleton ESP with health, weapon and distance, bomb, grenade and utility ESP, and a triggerbot with a reaction delay. The build changes its signature on every launch, it is rebuilt after Valve patches, and its live status is public before you queue.

The ESP covers what a DMA radar is bought for, player positions, and draws them on the screen you are already looking at.

It is a VAC build only. FACEIT’s kernel anti-cheat needs a different build, and the FACEIT version is still in development, with a Discord waitlist on its page. If FACEIT is where you play, do not use the VAC build there.

The short version

A CS2 DMA cheat is a radar or ESP run from a second PC through a card in your gaming PC. It costs hundreds before the second machine, takes the most setup of any cheat, and it is neither undetectable on FACEIT nor a shield against VAC Live and Overwatch in matchmaking. For VAC matchmaking, a software build on one PC gives you more for less.

Frequently asked questions

Is a DMA cheat detected in CS2?

It can be. VAC has no kernel driver, so in matchmaking the bigger risk is behaviour: VAC Live watching the match and Overwatch reviewing reported demos. A DMA radar user who pre-aims through walls looks the same in a demo as anyone else. On FACEIT, the kernel anti-cheat checks hardware and requires the IOMMU for higher-rated players, which is aimed at DMA cards.

How much does a CS2 DMA setup cost?

Around $200 to $600 for the DMA hardware, plus a second computer to run the cheat on. Showing an ESP on your main screen or aiming through the card needs more devices on top, and the cheat software that runs on the second PC is usually a separate purchase.

What is a CS2 DMA radar?

A radar that runs on the second PC, reads player positions through the DMA card and draws them on an overhead map, often as a web page you open on a phone, tablet or second monitor. It is the most common kind of CS2 DMA cheat because it only needs to read memory.

Does FACEIT detect DMA cheats?

FACEIT says its anti-cheat can detect DMA cheats, and it has rolled out an IOMMU and virtualization-based security requirement that blocks plug-in cards from reading game memory. It has been enforced for every player above 3,000 Elo since August 2025.

Do I need a DMA card to cheat in CS2?

No. The Elocarry Counter-Strike 2 build for VAC matchmaking runs on the same Windows PC as the game, with no DMA card, no second computer and no extra hardware.
