What earns a spot at the top, and what to grab first.
Survival value, not just damage
Loot is ranked on how much it keeps you alive and winning fights, balancing power against how common it is and how much ammo or upkeep it needs. A plate carrier and a saline bag rank as high as any rifle, because protection and recovery decide more fights than raw firepower.
S-tier loot to stop for
- M4-A1 Weapon
Top-tier assault rifle with great attachments and handling.
- KA-M Weapon
Hard-hitting 7.62x39 AR with very common ammo.
- Plate Carrier Armor
The best body armour in the game. Always take it.
- Mountain Backpack Backpack
The largest backpack. Huge carry capacity.
- NVG Optic
Night vision goggles. A massive edge after dark.
- Saline Bag Medical
Rapidly restores blood and health. Top medical find.

What is the best loot in DayZ?
The S-tier finds are the ones to stop for: M4-A1, KA-M, Plate Carrier, Mountain Backpack, NVG, Saline Bag. A plate carrier, a strong rifle, night vision, a saline bag and a big backpack turn a fresh spawn into a real threat.
What is the best gun in DayZ?
M4-A1 and KA-M sit at the top for damage, handling and ammo availability. The KA-M is especially good value because 7.62x39 is everywhere, while the M4-A1 has the best attachment support.
What armour should I look for?
A Plate Carrier is the best body armour by a clear margin, ideally with attached pouches for storage. Pair it with a Tactical or Assault Helmet for head protection.
Where is the best loot found?
Top-tier military gear spawns at military bases, the NWAF and Tisy, and contaminated zones. The trade-off is risk: those are the most contested spots on any server.
