DayZ Badlands: Release Date, Map and What Is New

DayZ Badlands is out. Bohemia released the expansion on 15 October 2026, together with Update 1.30, and it brings the largest map Bohemia has made for the game: a new desert map called Nasdara, new diseases, sandstorms, rebuildable houses and a radio system that leads you to hidden bunkers.

DayZ Badlands at a Glance

Release Date

Bohemia confirmed the date in a Steam announcement on 27 August 2026, “DayZ Badlands | Coming October 15, 2026”, alongside the trailer shown at Gamescom. The date held. The expansion launched on 15 October with a post titled “DayZ Badlands Expansion is Out Now!” and the Steam store page lists the same release date.

Update 1.30 had been on Steam Experimental since 16 September, but Bohemia held most of the expansion’s content back until release. The motorbikes were the main exception, because they needed more testing.

On launch day Bohemia said a first 1.30 patch would go to Steam Experimental the next day, aimed at problems hitting modders, and that “the stable patch on all platforms will follow at a later date.” As of 26 October 2026, no later announcement has appeared in DayZ’s official Steam news.

Price and What You Need

Bohemia announced the price on 2 October 2026: about $24.99, with regional pricing. It launched at 10% off on Steam. The store page marks it as content that requires the base game, so you need DayZ first.

If you own the base game and neither expansion, the Hot & Cool Bundle packs DayZ Badlands with DayZ Frostline.

Bohemia’s launch post covers Steam, Xbox and PlayStation for Update 1.30 and says Nasdara was optimised for all platforms.

Nasdara: The Badlands Map

Nasdara is the reason to buy Badlands. Bohemia describes it as the largest terrain it has ever made for DayZ, at 267 km². The store page places it west of Chernarus, bordering Takistan’s western frontier. It is fully inland: sand creeps in from the east and border mountains split the land to the west.

From Bohemia’s launch post, here is what you will find on it:

• Jagged mountains and sprawling desert plains.
• Large evacuation zones, abandoned oil fields and crumbling military bases.
• Wells and irrigation tunnels. Part of the rebuilding system, and a reason for players to fight over, or share, water.
• Urban bunkers. Their locations and access codes come over the radio as Morse code.

What Is New in DayZ Badlands

Sandstorms, Heatstroke and Silicosis

The desert is a threat in itself. Gusts of wind can build into large sandstorms, and Badlands adds two new medical conditions: heatstroke and silicosis. Water is the answer to both and it is scarce. You need it to stay hydrated, to cool down and to rinse sand out of your eyes after a storm.

Bohemia’s dev blogs also flagged a trade-off in clothing. Heavier, better insulated clothes usually carry more, while the lighter clothes Nasdara pushes you into carry less, so inventory space gets tighter.

Rebuilding: Nearly 5,000 Structures

Nasdara has nearly 5,000 rebuildable structures. They are not all houses: wells and irrigation tunnels can be rebuilt too. Morse Code Radio and Bunkers

Badlands adds a new way to find loot. Keep a personal radio on you and you will pick up transmissions in Morse code that carry coordinates and access codes for urban bunkers. Decode the message, find the entrance, open it and take what is inside. Bohemia kept this feature out of the pre-release creator event, so it only appeared at launch.

The bunkers use a new terrain-hole system for underground spaces, which Bohemia says will also be available for other maps and for modders.

Weapons, Clothing and Wildlife

• Weapons: regional firearms from the classic Lee-Enfield up to modern SCR rifles, plus new melee weapons.
• Clothing: face wraps, dust goggles, lightweight clothes and desert camouflage, including a night desert pattern on the FNO uniform.
• Wildlife: mouflons, desert monitors and territorial dogs that guard their dead owners’ ground alongside the infected.
• Infected: new infected designed for the region.

Update 1.30: What Every Player Got

Badlands is paid, but Update 1.30 went to everyone. These changes reached the base game:

• A full wipe on every platform. Bohemia called it “a fresh start for everyone.”
• Motorbikes. Two of them: the moped, in blue, red or yellow, and the enduro, with swappable coloured plates. Both use a new two-wheel simulation with leaning, and crashes use ragdoll physics. If you crash, you fall unconscious, so you will not see your own ragdoll.
• New inventory icons. More than 150 icons were redrawn in one consistent style.
• Smarter infected attacks. Infected now aim high, centre or low depending on where your head is, so crouching, going prone or fighting on stairs and slopes plays differently. They also have a new running heavy attack.
• Weapon colour variants. Alpha-era colour variants are back for some firearms, with upgraded textures.

Is DayZ Badlands Worth It?

Steam reviews for the expansion are mixed. As of 26 October 2026 the store page shows 62% positive across 894 reviews. That figure moves, and patches can shift it.

If you play a lot of DayZ and want a new map with new survival pressure, Badlands gives you the largest terrain DayZ has, for $24.99. If you mainly want motorbikes, the new icons and the wipe, Update 1.30 already gave you those for free.
