What to run as administrator, and what not to

Administrator rights are one of the most common setup mix-ups we see. Two programs need them. Steam, your launcher and the game do not, and running them as administrator breaks the cheat.

Quick answer
Run Windows PowerShell (for the loader command) and Discord as administrator. Start Steam, your game launcher and the game normally. If any of them is set to always run as administrator, untick that box in its Compatibility settings.

Why Steam and the game must not

Running Steam or the game as administrator is one of the most common reasons the cheat does not work, and the fix takes a minute. It also spreads: a game started from Steam gets the same rights Steam has, so if Steam runs as administrator, so does every game you launch from it.

Turn off run as administrator for Steam

  1. Close Steam completely, including the icon in the system tray
  2. Right-click your Steam shortcut and choose Open file location, then right-click steam.exe and choose Properties
  3. Open the Compatibility tab and untick Run this program as an administrator
  4. Click Change settings for all users, untick it there too if it is ticked, then click OK
  5. Check the shortcut you start Steam from the same way
  6. Start Steam by double-clicking it, not with right-click → Run as administrator

Do the same for the game

  1. In Steam, right-click the game and choose Manage → Browse local files
  2. Right-click the game’s .exe and choose Properties
  3. On the Compatibility tab, untick Run this program as an administrator, including under Change settings for all users

Run Discord as administrator

  1. Close every Discord process, including the icon in the system tray. Check Task Manager to be sure.
  2. Right-click Discord and choose Run as administrator

Run PowerShell as administrator

  1. Press the Windows key and type PowerShell
  2. Right-click Windows PowerShell and choose Run as administrator. Not Windows PowerShell (x86) and not PowerShell 7.
  3. Click Yes, then paste the command from your onboarding email

Common questions

I run everything as administrator. Is that a problem?

For Elocarry, yes. Keep administrator for PowerShell and Discord only, and start Steam, your launcher and the game normally.

Steam asks for administrator every time it starts. Why?

Something is set to run it as administrator, usually the Compatibility setting on steam.exe or on the shortcut. Untick Run this program as an administrator on both, including under Change settings for all users.

Does my game launcher count too?

Yes. A game started from a launcher running as administrator runs as administrator too, so start the launcher normally.
